• Nov 08, 2010 Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain. 'MYDOMAIN.QA' over rpc: Invalid parameter. I'm really stumped on this one, since I can run net ads info just. I also get no errors when running the kinit command. Root# net ads info. LDAP server: 10.16.100.200. LDAP server name: server1.mydomain.qa.
• So I'm having the lovely experience of attempting to join an Ubuntu-Server instance to a corporate AD domain built exclusively for Windows. Joined ' to dns domain ' No DNS domain configured for. Unable to perform DNS Update. DNS update failed: NTSTATUSINVALIDPARAMETER.
• Bug 1461434 - Changetrustpw throws NTSTATUSINVALIDPARAMETER. Unable to perform DNS Update. DNS update failed: NTSTATUSINVALIDPARAMETER samba-cli01: # net.

No DNS domain configured for freebsdtr. Unable to perform DNS Update. DNS update failed: NTSTATUSINVALIDPARAMETER 1. Nslookup mydomain.com resolved in ip addresses domain controllers from computer with NetBIOS name freebsdtr. Record on DNS server in zone mydomain.com for computer name freebsdtr not. DNS update failed: NTSTATUSINVALIDPARAMETER. Searched through many sites and tried numerous attempts without any luck. I have followed the Troubleshooting Samba Domain Members guide to the tee and no go: Added file server IP addresss and FQDN to /etc/hosts file: '192.168.1.16 fileserver.domain.example.com fileserver'.

After setting up a Samba AD Member Server following the instructions on
the Samba Wiki, I am running into some issues. I checked the net for
hints, including the list archive, and indeed my issues are mentioned in

many places but never accompanied by a working solution.
I will focus on one point for now. When joining my member server to the
DC, I see the following output in the shell:
# net ads join -U administrator
Using short domain name -- SAM
Joined 'HOSTNAME' to dns domain 'sam.domain.com'
No DNS domain configured for hostname. Unable to perform DNS Update.
DNS Update failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
If I check the domain attached computers with RSAT, this host is listed
but with an arrow pointing down (afaik a sign for 'disabled').
I did all the various checks suggested on the wiki page, such as using
'host', 'ldbsearch', 'kinit' and so on. They all return the respective
recommended values. But let me know if some specific output would help,

var/log/messages mentions only CUPS errors. I am not sure if this is

relevant since I don't even need CUPS (how can I avoid these errors?).
Is this DNS error a relevant error at all? If yes, does anyone know how
it could come to this error?
I am not sure if this is relevant information but there is no DNS record
for the member server on the DC. It's also nowhere mentioned that this
is necessary.
